REAL WORLD RESULTS

This program was intense, sustainable, and Coach Kyle kept up with me on a near-daily basis with form checks and motivation. This was hands down a fantastic experience that saw massive improvements in my range of motion, reduction in aches and pains, and improved strength!

I used to have severe back problems every other week, then I started to go to Primal Performance and have had no problems since. They work wonders with building muscle and strengthening weaknesses and now the only problem i have is keeping clothes that fit due to all the muscles I’ve built!!

Mandeep Riarh

I managed to lose some fat and gained strength. Great results in a short time frame. The program was easy to follow through the app. It was all laid out nicely and very handy to track numbers within the app.”

Coach was great at modifying as needed based on feedback, but also pushed me to go harder when it was safe to do so. The programs were very easy. Instructional videos are really well done.

Dan K

I loved the variety of workouts. I adapted really well to the supersets in the early weeks and saw gains in all lifts over the course of the program.

“Thought it was a good app, workout program was excellent, easy to use, and workouts were challenging.”

To anyone looking to get stronger and feel better, whether they’re an athlete or not I can’t recommend working with Primal Performance enough. Overall I had a fantastic time working with Kyle and Graeme. With your help I got to my strongest ever and least amount of pain which was f’ing sweet.

Graeme and Kyle- THANK YOU! When I first started with Primal Performance I was surprised how much I could actually do. My first week I set the goal of being able to deadlift my own body weight. After 4 weeks, not only was I doing that, I started noticing major changes in how I felt and looked (might I add). I used to dread working that hard at the gym and this program quickly turned into the best part of my day. I look forward to continuing to work with PP. These guys are the real deal! If you’re searching for online training and not at the very least CONSIDERING Primal Performance, I don’t know what you’re doing!

“I came to Kyle with the goal of keeping myself functional and mobile as I spend too much time hunched over a laptop in the office. Kyle was able to identify issues with my posture and joints that I wasn’t even aware of and tailored workouts to address these issues on top of my owns goals. The biggest change I’ve noticed besides my overall functional strength improving significantly is the range of motion I’ve regained in my shoulders. My left shoulder had become so stiff from lack of use that it became readily apparent that I couldn’t safely raise weight overhead. Fast-forward to today and with Kyle’s help I’m able to press kettlebells half my body weight overhead with no issues or concerns. I’ve been fortunate to have Kyle as my coach for more than 5 years and its clear that besides being a great friend; he is knowledgeable, truly passionate about your fitness journey and makes sure you’re training safely and effectively. I can say without hesitation that I will continue to train with Kyle and choosing to do so has been was one the best choices I’ve made in terms of my overall health. “

“I’ve trained with Graeme for several years, both in one-one-one coaching and as part of the various classes he leads. He puts a great deal of effort into helping you understand movement patterns and form, so that you have the tools and knowledge to safely execute exercises in your individual training. When he introduces new exercises into your workouts and programs, he always builds up to it using simpler movements at first; as a result, I am always aware of what the correct movements should ultimately feel like, and have also learned how to be critical of my own form.

Graeme was also an instrumental part of helping me recover from a fractured ankle. He helped me push my limits each session, but always took care to make sure I felt ok mentally and physically with the approach we were taking. His coaching gave me the confidence and structure to help me go through the rehab process quickly and safely, with the result that under a year later, my overall strength and stability has actually increased compared to before the injury.

He is also very attentive to your functional goals, whether that is in sport, rehabilitation, or simply a desire to get stronger. He takes the time to get to know you on a personal level and then approaches your programming based around what is sustainable for you as a client with respect to your objectives, lifestyle, other activities, etc. “

Q&A WITH CLIENT

When did you start your fitness journey?
My most recent journey started (at Blast Athletic), in late 2014. I have been interested in fitness before (e.g. signed up for a GoodLife membership in 2013), but it was e.g. cycling and aerobics, didn’t know much about lifting weights etc.

What motivated you to start?
I had in general some thoughts about fitness being important because my father passed away when he was 46 (I turned 39 in 2014). More immediately at that time, I had gone through a romantic breakup, and was not feeling very physically confident. Also I had seen an article about Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, who won the Crossfit Games; I started thinking about something in the Crossfit/functional fitness space.

What were some of your goals when you started?
I didn’t have so many definitive goals, just generally get stronger, look better, feel better etc.

What are your goals now?
All of the above, plus “soft” numeric goals (e.g. would like to do a 405 lb deadlift, a 100 kg clean/jerk etc.) but no specific timeframe to achieve them. Also I miss metcon classes, at some point I need to find a new substitute. Considering trying a martial arts class (Jujitsu? Boxing?) at some point as well, but don’t want to overload myself.

What have been your greatest achievements?
Generally improved self-confidence. Some personal records in lifts. Probably #1 at this time – flipping the 800 lb tire… Some changes in body composition, though subtle (waist a bit smaller, shoulders a bit bigger; actually heavier than when I started). Still quite a way to go, but starting to make tangible progress in weightlifting.

What were/are your biggest struggles?
Self-consciousness/fear – I don’t believe I am a natural athlete, and many/most of my “peers” in classes are in their 20s or 30s, sometimes I feel very “old”. Also I am still learning the focus that I need to train; I was used to taking group classes, and being “lost” in my thoughts/the music, but barbell movements need a lot more focus (will lose snatch without focus; will get crushed on a heavy squat without concentration)

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their fitness journey?
Find something that you like. Training environment is important for me, I didn’t (and possibly still don’t) have the confidence to train in a heavily “bro” gym environment, it was/is important to find an environment that was supportive, didn’t mind that I wasn’t naturally athletically confident, yet emphasized/celebrated progression. Having a personal trainer can be valuable, it was for me. It does cost more, for me I thought of training as analogous to e.g. a tutor that I might hire in university to help learn/understand material (except in this case, it was fitness movements, routines etc.)

What is your favorite thing about your workouts?
Progression over time in athletic endeavours (where I have never felt athletic), gives me a certain sense of accomplishment/confidence that was lacking before. Though I’m sure I won’t match the results of some younger/more athletic peers, in many ways I am stronger/”fitter” than I have ever been, and I think I can continue to progress.

Also I can focus on something outside of my “normal life” for an hour or two, and while I am often fatigued/out of breath during my training session, I almost always feel better a couple of hours later.

What does training/health mean to you?
Training is exercising with a goal in mind. Sometimes I just want to sweat or try for a personal record on something, but don’t do it because there is a training plan which says I should take it easier on that day. I like the positive feeling, focus and over time results that come from training.

Health is being able to so the activities I wish to do, so that might be digging in the garden, or shoveling snow, or walking or running a few km. There would be some “resilience” in health as well, so if/when I fall in the snow or on ice, I just look silly rather than fracturing a bone.

I’m hoping to continue in some form as I get older. I have an older mom and older grandparents, the latter whom are having difficulty walking/performing basic everyday activities. I guess this will ultimately happen with age, but hopefully I can remain as healthy and reasonably strong as possible.

What have you learned about yourself?
I have learned that I enjoy the focus, the results over time, and the additional outlet that comes with training.
