OUR STORY

Our motivation to help office workers become the strongest and healthiest versions of themselves lays in our grandfather’s (Papa) story. Our earliest memories of him are of a strong man with bulging biceps. Papa’s biceps reminded us of action figures we’d play with as children. Before moving to Toronto, he was a general for the army in Grenada and then after WW2 he was a police captain on the same island. He later retired and moved to Toronto. He chose the path of least resistance and spent most of his time in a big chair, reading and watching television. He stopped exercising and moving in general. This was the beginning of his end. Throughout a few decades, he started to slouch more, lose muscle, and move ever-more gingerly. It was heartbreaking to watch. Nonetheless, the seated position was a constant.

Into his 70s and 80s, our grandfather was taking more medication than we’ve ever seen on a night stand, and over 90% of it was to help with his back and neck pain–which was partially due to becoming weak and only holding his body in one primary posture due to spending the majority of his time in his chair. That one posture he maintained was the classic slouched seated position. The worst posture is the posture you spend the most time in, and unfortunately that is the slouched seated posture. You eat slouched over in a chair, you drive to work slouched over in your car seat, you sit in a chair all day at work. Then you get in your car and sit in the same position on the way home. Eat dinner slouched over and then watch some tv, you guessed it, slouched over. Back to bed and the cycle continues. Because we spend so much time in one basic posture it makes it very important for our bodies to get regular exercise whereby we expose our bodies to a variety of movements and postures. Before working in offices was the norm, humans were much more active throughout the day. This meant we moved throughout bigger ranges of motion and made sure our joints stayed healthy and resilient. We have worked with many office workers that were looking to improve their strength and mobility while losing bodyfat. The added bonus is we help you learn how to take away the physical stresses that come with working in an office, so you don’t end up like our Papa.

Graeme Gentle

Training has always been a part of Graeme’s life. From a young age he was quite active in competitive sports and really enjoyed it. Not because it was good for him but because he found it fun and challenging. As he got older and wiser, he realized the important role training plays into the longevity and ultimately the enjoyment he gets out of life. Graeme derives a lot of enjoyment from being able to do things he wants to do, and he knows this comes from his daily investment in his health. Consistent progressive training (weight/gym training and sports) has not only kept Graeme healthy but has kept him looking good. One of his reasons for training was to increase sports performance, yours may be to get strong, get fit, lose fat or rehab an injury. No matter the reason, you’ve come here to invest in your health and we’d be happy to help.
